Post-Modern graphic design example #8 (6/15)

Neville Brody's design shows several aspects of post-modernism due to the tilted axis, overlapping elements, and the unconventional aspects. There are several sections of overlapping within the design, with overlapping text, and placing text over the photograph. Several words are in bright red to contrast with the bright white and black, as well as scaled up in the middle of the other sections of text. The photo is so dark that the overlapping text stand out since it contracts with the grey scale photo and the white text. This is a very unconventional way of placing text, especially because a lot of the text is tilted. This example is very different form the last example because it doesn't show a strong message, but is just a poster for the actual designer, Neville Brody. This design also has a very straight photograph, with a solid separation between the white background and the photograph. This is very different from the design by Nunes/Singer because there aren't as many "weird" elements that go along with post-modernism, but they are similar with the unconventional text. In the previous design, the text was morphed into the photograph, whereas this design is simpler and just overlaps the photo with the text. This design is very important because it shows a great design for typography. Neville Brody is known for being excellent at typography, so incorporating this skill into post modernism is important since you can combine these skills to make an unconventional, tilted, and rule-breaking design. He produced a post-modern design that focused on showing the tilted axis and overlapping elements through typography, instead of the flashiness with colors, and morphing photos together. This is very important for research purposes as well because it allows other to see that they can follow the post-modern era not only with photos but can be just typography like Neville Bordy did in this example.
