Post-Modern graphic design example #7 (6/15)
This design really stood out to because it is a more current post-modern style. Since this design was made in 2013, the designer and photographer were able to go off of other designs created by other famous post-modern designers such as Paula Scher, April Greiman, Barbara Kruger, etc. This design pulls a lot of inspiration from Barbara Kruger with the similarities in the cut-out style of type at the top, as well as incorporating the letters into the photograph. Post-modern graphic design is all about breaking rules, such as using flashy colors instead of muted colors from the previous eras, although with this design she does not follow any rules by using very dark colors. This design is different from the previous design by Jones because the text is incorporated into the photo, doesn't have any flashy colors, and has a difference in the type of text used. The previous design did not show any overlapping between the text and background photo, whereas this design has the text morphing into the facial shape of the figure. This type of text is similar to a cut-out of a magazine and show different typography as well as scales, whereas the design by Scher is a simple, consistent text throughout the entire design. This design is very important mainly because it is closer to the current day but follows the post-modern era, while also going against some common rules. This rule-breaking aspect is normal for post-modern design, as this is also portrayed in the text within the design. Nunes/Singer's design is unconventional and almost weird, which describe post-modern design, so being able to capture the characteristics and unconventional elements in her design shows the full idea behind post-modernism.
