Post-Modern Graphic Design example #21 (6/26)
This design example relates directly to postmodernism because it follows every characteristic that was common during this era. It contains overlapping elements, unconventional text, flashy colors, a collage like style, and a tilted axis. This is very important to address these characteristics in the piece because this was created during this century, so much later than the postmodern era. I can see many of the common characteristics that define postmodernism inside of this design, showing that this designer took inspiration form the era and added their own spin to the common details. There are flashy colors shown mainly in the shapes in the background but are also shown through text such as the bright yellow "k" in the front of the design. The letters resemble cut outs from a magazine, which are common with postmodernism due to the collage style, as well as other cutout elements like rips of paper, letters, and photos. There is also a strong tilted axis since it shows rotated letters, as well as unconventional text as it is sort of just thrown on the page. This design is very different from the last one since it lacks the photography aspect and there is no tilted axis in the last example by Ozcelik. These are similar due to the geometric aspects although differ extremely with the overall style of text. This design's text is very unconventional and almost illegible, whereas the last example, the text is very easy to read and is on a straight path. This Behance design is very important because it deals with no photography, which we have seen a lot of in our research lately. Guzel's design focuses mainly on geometric shapes and typography while mainly other designs rely on the collage style within photography instead of text like Guzel does. Since this is such a current design, is it very important to see the different style people put on postmodernism such like Guzel did with the typography and shapes, while also maintaining the postmodern characteristics.
