Post-Modern Graphic Design example #17 (6/21)

I researched this same artists and festival brand identity, although the last one was published in 2022, whereas this one was in 2023. This design was for the Shakespeare in the Park and has a very different look than the last design released for this event, as well as a few different versions (the main image is one version, and the bottom set of designs are different versions). The last piece by Scher focused on only three colors, just like this one, although this piece was transferred into several different variations, as seen below the main photo, so they have different colors. They all have the same design with the overlapping elements, unconventional type, a tilted axis, flashy colors, and bold designs and textures, all common within postmodernism. Scher produced a very cohesive design, which will be easily recognizable with the different variations since the design is consistent through all of them, just the color pallet is changed. The last example I researched by Aiumy on Behance was very different as that example told a story about an artist, while Scher's design is to inform others about the event. The two examples both portrayed a tilted axis within the typography, although they differ with the textures. The tilted text in the design by Aiumy is only slightly rotated, whereas the design by Scher, the piece shows text that is completely horizontal clinging to the outside of the piece. The last example showed a lot more overlap with color and textures, while this example showed more overlap in the type and skull graphic, as well as the random scribbles. This design is very important because it relates to all of the elements associated with postmodernism, which is expected as it is a Paula Scher piece, who is an icon for creating postmodern pieces. This design does a great job at catching the audience's eye due to the flashy colors and vivid designs. The giant skill with scribbles all over the piece makes the reader follow the design all the way around and see the bold and unconventional aspect of postmodernism. This is important to me because it portrays how to inform an audience, as Scher uses such compelling colors, designs, and postmodern elements, this is a great way to pull in an audience. Since this design was aimed to the public, Scher had to create a design that would make people stop and study the design, which is very important within graphic design as this is the main goal of design.
